DEPUTY BARRY WELCOMES THE APPROVAL OF THE CONNA REGIONAL WATER SUPPLY SCHEME
Deputy Barry welcomes the Minister Phil Hogan’s approval of the Cork County Council’s design proposals for the Conna Regional Water Supply Scheme Phase 1 (Reservoir) contract.
The Contract as the Minister stated is included for funding his Department’s Water Services Investment Programme 2010 – 2012 at an estimated cost of €1m.
“The Conna Regional Water Supply Scheme involves the augmentation of the existing water supply scheme, the upgrading of the existing water treatment plant, provision of bank-side storage, the expansion of the distribution network to supply Conna Village as well as other nearby villages in north Cork and extending a supply main to serve Tallow in County Waterford. The water supply toConnaVillagehas traditionally been provided by local boreholes pumping into a small reservoir with limited storage which resulted in disruption in supply.
The scope of the works I am approving today for Phase 1 of the Conna Regional Water Supply Scheme involves the provision of a new reservoir and upgrading of the distribution system toConnaVillage. When completed, the works will provide good quality drinking water and security of supply for Conna.”
Given the importance of the scheme locally, Minister Hogan confirmed that he will be asking Cork County Council to press ahead with the preparation of contract documents with a view to seeking tenders at the earliest possible date.
